Lichtenstein is a clinical supervisor for mind-body medicine/biofeedback shifts in Bastyr Center’s Department of Naturopathic Medicine. Katrina earned a BA in Anthropology from Haverford College, and a Masters of Architecture from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. While earning her Masters of Architecture at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, she received a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture to build and monitor a compost heating system, a project which helped initiate the Urban Death Project.
Prior to architecture school, she studied sustainable design and building at Yestermorrow Design Build School, with a focus on regenerative communities and permaculture. Katrina has focused her design career on creating human-centered, ecological, architectural solutions. Then, Lichtenstein will guide you through an honest discussion of your own death, and how toplan and prepare for the inevitable. You‘ll learn about the science of how the center will process our bodies, what families can expect in their visit to the center, and why Spade is proposing a new alternative to traditional death practices in the first place. Spade will walk us through her plans for the Urban Death Project’s Recomposition Center, planned to open by 2023. In true Seattle fashion, Spade’s Urban Death Project is a plan to take compost to the next level: recycling ourselves.
